Fixed or Growth? What's your mindset?
One of our favorite activities to do during group coaching engagements is to help individuals understand their "mindset". Is it a fixed one or a growth one? From there, we challenge leaders to take it a step further and understand the cultural mindset of their organizations. If their organization's cultural mindset isn't aligned with where they want it to be, we strategize on how we can change it. Though it takes a massive paradigm shift, mindsets can change and cultural mindsets can change as well.
How do you know which mindset you have? Do you find yourself saying any of the following to yourself?
"I'm either good or I'm not."
"When I'm frustrated, I give up."
"My abilities determine everything."
If so, you may have a fixed mindset.
What about the below?
"I can learn anything I want to."
"When I fail, I learn."
"My effort and attitude determine everything."
If so, you may have a growth mindset.
Growth mindsets embrace the idea that ability and talent can grow with work, practice, and time. Organizations with a culture of a growth mindset often are more successful, more engaged, more welcoming, and more profitable.
