Are you where you need to be?
Leadership is not easy. As teams and organizations change and/or grow, the demands of and on leaders change as well. It's important to check in on ourselves as leaders; to understand if we're where we need to be to successfully lead teams. Our friends at the Conscious Leadership Group have created a measuring stick for checking in on ourselves, and they call it "the line". They argue that leaders who are "above" the line are committed to learning. They live in curiosity. They question their own beliefs and are centered in learning. For those "below" the line, they focus on being right. They constantly feel as though they don't have enough and blame others when plans go awry.
Unfortunately for us all, it's incredibly easy to fall "below" the line. In fact, our brains are hardwired for it. Still, by asking the simple question of "where am I on the line?", we give ourselves the chance to restart.
