Givers? Takers? Matchers? Which are you?
Much of what we do as Executive Coaches at uTopology is to guide leaders into understanding their intrinsic management style. Often, these styles translate into parenting styles, relationship styles, and the styles in which we approach struggles or challenges in our daily lives. There are so many ways to characterize this, but one of our favorites (and the one we often feel is the most simple) centers around whether our leaders are "givers", "takers", or "matchers".
Adam Grant, Wharton's highest rated professor and famed organizational psychologist, explains the differences between the three in his book Give and Take. Understanding where you fall in the list can help in managing teams, working through difficult situations at work or in life, and understanding how your style contributes to your success.
